DNS info and lookup – What is DNS?
DNS is short for Domain Name Server (or Domain Name System, Domain Name Service).
A DNS server is often referred to as a nameserver. The nameserver is responsible for translating a domain name to an IP address. Eg. dnsinfo.dk is translated into 104.21.44.10, which is the address of the server where the domain is placed.
It compares to saved contacts on your mobile. When you make a phone call to a contact, the contacts name is then translated into a phone number.
Just like a phone number, an IP address is unique and refers to one specific device. Regarding domain names, the IP address most likely refers to a web server.
